My beautiful Aloe Vera plants
I have always enjoyed gardening and keeping chickens. So much so that even when I worked in busy city-centre offices, computer software developers or financial and insurance firms, that was all I would ever talk about! One day colleague of mine brought in a tiny shoot of her Aloe Vera plant as a present for me, saying that I should enjoy really this low-maintenance plant.

I think that was back in 2012 and by now I have at least three indoor flower pots full of lush plump and juicy Aloe Vera plants. I really love them, they are so easy to care for and are so useful in making homemade cosmetics or for a completely natural first aid!
Aloe Vera has been long known for its moisturising and revitalising properties. The gel inside the plant leaves is brimming with vitamins, minerals and hormones (Auxin and Gibberellins) which softens the skin without clogging pores or leaving a greasy layer on your skin. Not only is Aloe Vera soothing and moisturising, it also has wound healing and anti-inflammatory properties!
It is also common knowledge that Aloe Vera soothes sunburns and is a good first aid remedy for any accidental minor burns around the home! This is so good for a clumsy person like me, especially when our wood burning stove is on in winter. Ouch! It also has been long used to help with various skin problems, like psoriasis, acne and eczema and it is also great to use as an aftershave to smooth the skin and help heal the small burns and nicks (not that it applies to James - he is so proud of his award-winning Viking beard!).
I also recently found out that all the mineral rich gel is great at moisturising and revitalising damaged hair and may even help to promote hair growth. This is brilliant news for someone with dry, damaged hair who wants a bit of natural remedy and care instead of using even more commercial products that might just continue to cause further damage.
So, I say the more the merrier! I hope my Aloe Vera plants grow huge and multiply again and again so I can always have a never ending supply of this natural vitamin rich goodness for my skin and hair!
