Thank you, Eday Shop!
It was Christmas time and our local shop had a great idea of asking every resident what they wanted to order for their special celebration dinner. They printed out a list of all cuts of meat, vegetables, sauces, drinks, snacks, fruits and puddings that they are able to order and ship to our local island and all we had to do was tick which items we wanted and indicate the quantities that we wanted to order.
We popped to the shop a week before Christmas and there it all was, tidily prepared in two boxes - one in the warehouse and one in the freezer section with our name on it. Everything we ordered was in the boxes and all we had to do was pick it up. We paid for the boxes and were back home within 10 minutes - our Christmas shopping done!
All I could think was that there were people right now in the UK who must be rushed off their feet with their last minute shopping in supermarkets, struggling to get stuffing, fighting over the last jar of mustard and generally having to spend hours traipsing around through sea of other people, wait around in long queues and endure all the other heartaches (and feet-aches no doubt) that last minute Christmas shopping brings. The only reason I know this to be true is because I’ve been there and done that not once, not twice but indeed quite a few times!
And yet here we were, all stocked up and ready, relaxed and enjoying a glass of gin & tonic! It was a bliss and we were so grateful to all our thoughtful friends and neighbours who work at the local Eday shop. Here's a glass to all of you!
Merry Christmas!
