Hoarding Supplies For The End Of The World
Our property came with three large shipping containers. The lady who lived here before rightly thought that extra storage space would not go a miss and we really appreciate having them on our land.
We use one of the containers to store the fuel for our multi-fuel stove ready to burn over winter. It helps keep the peat and wood dry and is a convenient space to put the shipping pallets, both whole and smashed up ready for winter.
Another container is currently being misused to store rubbish which we removed from the old caravan which we found dumped on our land. We tried getting the rubbish removed but the local council wasn’t very helpful so that remains a project for another day!
And the third container is what we call “useful” container and is a place we put everything that we buy, find, inherit or make that, for now has no purpose, but will or might be useful at some point in the future. However, this storage, this dumping ground, has become a little bit of a crutch of late and every item that doesn’t have home of its own ends up living in this container. A while ago James ventured in trying to sort it out, but only came out baffled and confused and I have to admit that it only got worse since then.

We still have all the old junk that James goes through in this video, but we also added a new door for the back of the house, bags of sand and cement, more fencing rolls and roofing felt - which is all useful indeed, but needs using as we finish off homestead maintenance projects. Now that James is working from home we have more time and energy to get these projects done. However, me being heavily pregnant doesn’t help matters progress and I have a feeling we will wait another few months before we take any large renovation projects on.

I really can’t wait to get the house properly finished but we’re taking our time, we’re here to stay we have all the time in the world and we really want to do it ourselves! I am sure that, bit by bit, the house and the land will become just as we want it!
