My intelligent and loyal pet duck
It is June 2018 and the duck is now 3 months old. She grew up to be really large, giving us a good indication that Khaki Campbell ducks do indeed make a great addition to the smallholding and that we should consider hatching some more next year. She is smart, independent, friendly and still incredibly attached to us. Every time James takes our two dogs for a walk, he comes back with three animals in tow and we always have to chase the duck away from our house, reminding her that she no longer lives in our living room!

She has also learned to knock on the front door for her food. There is plenty of food available in the courtyard where she chose to stay but I guess she likes the attention that I give her. Now and again there is a knock knock on the front door, followed by a very definite quack quack. She keeps doing this until I open the door and give her some food which she eagerly eats straight from my hand. It is a lovely animal who we decided will make a great duck pack leader / top duck once we hatch some little baby ducklings next year.
Lately, we’ve been taking the dogs for a walk around the common fields at the back to try to catch some wild rabbits which supplement their (and sometimes our) dinner. The duck has learned our evening routine and for the last couple of evenings has come for a walk with us. We didn’t know about it the first time so just went for a walk as usual and on the way back I heard a familiar quack quack. James thought it was simply the sound traveling from our house but it turned out that the duck was right there in the field with us. She then waddled all the way back home with us. The second time she decided to follow us from the start and we made a lovely video of this:

She really is an intelligent, loving, loyal and adorable pet duck and we have all learned to appreciate and love her very much.
