Our philosophy on raising children

James and I got married in 2011, so we have been happily wedded for the best part of a decade! He is a wonderful husband and this is a fantastic partnership - that of togetherness, understanding, adventure and good daily dose of humour! We are best friends and we are so much in love!
So, 7 years of amazing married life and. . . no children? Well, we always said that we would settle down first and be responsible about expanding our family. We did not want to create such a huge commitment for ourselves whilst living in rented accommodation or an environment that did not match our philosophy on raising children and therefore, in our opinion, was simply not suitable.

The big cities always felt so artificial, corrupted, and soul-destroying to us: steel and concrete places with toxic air, frozen food, high crime, little time, brainwashing advertisements, pressure to be someone that you know in your heart you are not. Yes, people have children (often multiple!) in the big cities all the time but we thought we could do better - and we did, it only took us a little longer. . .

Everything has changed now! In the last couple of years we have left the city in South Wales and re-settled into a smallholding on a remote Orkney island. We now live in an environment that is financially secure and ecologically natural, clean and safe! We live in a place where there is no crime, no advertising, no peer pressure, no pollution and where neighbours really look out for one another. A place where we have space for our own thoughts, where we have time for one another and where love can thrive. Better yet, we have an ability to grow or catch our own food and see amazing wildlife all around us every day!

This is a place for children! This is a way we feel is best to raise our son or daughter - in a relaxed healthy place where they can explore the very best of this Earth: green fields, blue oceans, clear skies, real food.
After a year on Eday, we feel settled and we feel great. So much so, that we decided this is the place and this is the time for us to conceive a baby. It wasn’t easy as James has been working away a lot but in January this year we finally had the good news! And so, the next chapter begins - being pregnant on a small remote island has its own challenges but also its own unique rewards.
