Sea fishing in Eday, Orkney
A childhood dream come true! As with fishing in any location, local knowledge is a great asset to have. Many of the locals in Orkney tend not to fish for pleasure, but commercially fishing on small boats, creel boats or working for local sea farming companies.
These locals do indeed have a wealth of knowledge, not so much about pleasure fishing, but about the seasonal changes of fish in the area and environmental factors relating to fishing, yet none could tell me where the best places to dangle a worm on a hook were.
The best way to find good fishing marks in any area without local knowledge is to head out for an adventure, don your hiking boots and wonder the coast line, carefully charting potential areas in a notebook.
