Sheep skin bedding.

We have been sourcing materials and items that would fit in with our pre-1900's lifestyle, so it is always exciting when there is a delivery at the door.

Today, 5 sheepskins arrived which will make a layer of our top bedding, they are exceptionally warm and cosy, easy to air and when shown the face of a wicker slapper, the dust jumps right out with fright.

These sheep skins were a common form of bedding for the commoner and servant right up to the late C.19.   These skins would be paired with a patchwork throw to prevent the individual skins from skewing off from the sleeping soul.

I will write more about the bedding, and also about the straw mattress in due course.
