When the land dictates the plan.

I am not one for putting too much down to coincidence, chance or fate, but every once in awhile something happens that makes me question just how in tune we are with our natural environment and the land that we are on.

This afternoon, I set aside some time to prepare some ground ready to plant some rhubarb crowns which are currently in pots in the courtyard.  They are happy enough there for the time but will need planting out soon.  I had a rough feeling of where I wanted them to go - but set about the 3 acres of land to find the best spot for them.

Shovel and rake in hand, bracing the winds and all too often downpours I stopped at where I thought would make the perfect place to grow our rhubarb bed.  Clearing back the tall grass - the land has not been worked for 3 -4 years, I came across something that I didn’t expect.  I found a load of rhubarb crowns with stalks fighting their way through the dense grass.

Sometimes, following your instinct leads to many great discoveries!
