Today has been a bit of an admin day, so James and Ron looked through many children's bank accounts and Ron decided he wants one that offers a little extra something - because who doesn't like a freebie? Admin: Bank account opened Milestone: First growth spurt Gifts: Knitted baby clothes Friday 5th OctoberOnce again, the baby would not settle for a peaceful night's sleep and I spent the night jumping up to get to the baby and trying to soothe them whichever way I could think of. Just as the night before, Ron would only doze off once he was utterly exhausted in the early hours of the morning, allowing me but a couple of hours of sleep. Admin: Bank account opened As I was sleeping in this morning, James was amusing the baby and when I woke up, he informed me that they had chosen a bank account that Ron liked. He actually said "Ron would like an RBS account as they come with a free piggy bank" - I could not argue with the little boy's logic there! I could also see the benefit of RBS having a local branch in Kirkwall - one of a handful banks that still have a physical presence up here in Orkney. It was an all round good choice, well done Ron! Milestone: First growth spurt I believe we are going through our first ever growth spurt. The baby is attached to me all day long - that's not even an exaggeration! He doesn't sleep, but eats and eats and eats! And then he needs to be winded, which I still haven't grasped so James is the man for this job. We call it the "bouncy bouncy with daddy" game. . . which gives me about 2 minutes of free time (which I usually spend folding the next lot of terry nappies). If he doesn't get winded, the air gets trapped in his belly and the baby is in a lot of pain, or what we call the "milk everywhere" moments happen, with milk literally going everywhere! When the happy burp happens, the baby immediately starts to root for more food. We call this the "nuzzle nuzzle" moment as he is nuzzling James's neck and cheeks. This means that I have a whole total of 10 seconds to get back to the baby before what we call the "scrunchy face" happens. Scrunchy face means I am too late and the baby is now starving hungry! Gifts: Knitted baby clothes Today we weer also visited by a neighbour - everybody on our little island is a neighbour, really - who brought us some hand knitted clothes for when the baby is a little bigger. She told us a lot about her experience of being a mum on this island and agreed that it's a great place to grow up. Whilst we were having a tea with our neighbour, I was sitting in a chair by the fire and non-stop feeding my little Ronnie. After our friend had left, I noticed I had congealed blood clots in my maternity pad that had freaked me out, so I called the maternity unit to check whether that was normal (because who knows what is normal after giving birth?). The midwife said it happened because I had been sitting down for a long time and reassured me that I was all ok.
