Today was my Granddad's 75th birthday and Ronnie is only 29 days old. My Nan was amazed at such an age gap between the generations and I have to admit it is wonderful! Parenting: Not a 9-5 kind of a job Monday 29th OctoberParenting: Not a 9-5 kind of a job It was a tough night yesterday with the baby feeling rather unsettled so today I woke up with a terrible headache, feeling run down and poorly. Honey and lemon was my go-to remedy as well as mountains of chocolate but it didn't help all that much. Today of all days I needed a day off but being a mum is not a 9-5 job that comes with holidays, so there was little else I could do other than just "man up and deal with it" as James likes to say. My Nan sent us a message this morning asking for updates, saying that our little boy is nearly a month old now and she wanted to see photographs and hear how we were all doing. She also reminded me that it was my Granddad's 75th birthday exclaiming that there is such a huge age gap between him and Ronnie who was only 29 days old today! We wished my Granddad a happy birthday who was very happy with the photographs of his little great-grandchild and commented that little Ron had a very intelligent gaze on his face. I had to admit, the baby does appear to be lost deep in thought and pondering the world he found himself in. I then told my Nan that I wasn't sleeping too well as the baby seemed to be suffering from the "The Witching Hour" blues, only . . . unlike the babies in the article, ours would start at 10.00 pm and last until we all fell asleep from sheer exhaustion at 4.00 am or so. . . Now I see that these blues aren't constant, not every night is like that, but I felt irritated after the night we had yesterday and that is just what came out when I thought of an answer to "how were you coping?". Once she learned what was going on, she wondered if perhaps Ron had a windy tummy and suggested to try gently massage his belly in a round circle and then upwards or downwards to relieve the wind. I can then lay the baby on his side to reduce the ache any left over wind causes. I will be trying that the next time we have burst of crying.
